While this spring has been accessible to the public since the 1800's the water collection monument is located on private property. The springs property has recently come under new ownership, and it is with their permission that we have embarked on this project.
We are an adhoc group of neighbours, at this time. We are not a registered charity. We cannot give tax receipts. What we can do is offer sponsorships for business, please contact Fiona Berkopec if you are a business and would like to Advertise on our website and program to support the fund.
We have invited the City of Hamilton and the Conservation Authority to partner with us on this project however the City and the HCA have declined involvement on the basis that this is Private Property.
As a result we have embarked on the project as Private Citizens.
There is no accident report of the impact/demolition of this monument. No one has taken responsibility for the demolition to date. We are working on the premise that this was an unreported accident.
We are working with artist Patrick Bermingham and HGH Granite to design and build the new monument. Funds will go to the purchase and machining of large granite stones that will be the basis of the new monument.
We hope to make it resilient to impact and the harsh conditions of the sulphur water which is why we are choosing a Granite design. The new monument needs to then be transported and installed at Sulphur Springs Road. We have to pay for some signage and generally making the area a pleasant reflection of the monument.
We are all quite inspired each for our own reasons to protect local springs, any money that is raised in excess of the cost of the monument we will donate to the next spring project.
